3.2L Power Stroke Inline 5 Specs & Information

The 3.2L Power Stroke is an inline 5 cylinder, DOHC diesel engine developed by Ford Motor Company. The engine, based on Ford Global's "Puma" engine family, was developed for commercial Transit Van applications in the United States. A properly equipped Ford Transit powered by the 3.2L Power Stroke diesel is rated to carry up to 4,300 lbs of cargo and can tow up to 7,500 lbs. The 3.2L Power Stroke has long been rumored as the diesel option coming to the 1/2 ton F-150 model line that Ford claims is under development. However, these rumors have not been substantiated and Ford is developing an alternative and likely more powerful diesel option for the F-150.

The engine is mated to Ford's 6R80 six speed automatic transmission. Its torque curve is relatively flat, maintaining a minimum 346 lb-ft of torque between 1,500 and 2,750 rpm. In meeting Federal emissions requirements, the 3.2L Power Stroke employs a single brick system (SBS) combination DOC/DPF in addition to selective catalytic reduction (SCR) and exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) systems. The diesel particulate filter regeneration system features a user controlled manual regeneration mode in addition to the typical active regen strategy.

Additional 3.2L Power Stroke Details

• Sand cast gray iron engine block, aluminum cylinder heads, fractured cap connecting rods, 2 bolt mains, die cast aluminum pistons w/ piston cooling jets.

• The engine features (3) different connecting rod lengths, which must be correctly oriented during assembly.

• The 3.2L Power Stroke utilizes DPF (diesel particulate filter), DOC (diesel oxidation catalyst), EGR (exhaust gas recirculation, water cooled), and SCR (selective catalytic reduction w/ diesel exhaust fluid) emission components to meet U.S. emission mandates.

• Engine maintains 90% of peak torque from 1,700 to 3,500 rpm, giving it a flat, broad torque curve.

• Engines are manufactured at Ford's Struandale Engine Plant in Port Elizabeth, South Africa.
